The Malta Township Public Library will welcome master quilter, teacher and storyteller Deb Lindahl for a quilt presentation and discussion from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Lindahl is an insightful, dynamic and humorous speaker who will share her inspiration for her 100-dresses quilt and some of the stories behind the quilt blocks.
“My grandmother, Mabel Olivia Wann Nelson, was born in 1891, and hers was not an easy life," Lindahl said in a news release. "My uncle interviewed her for her life story in 1967, and I thought it was important to be able to tell her stories."
“As a quilter, my medium for telling stories was sewing 100 block dresses with fabrics from my mother’s dresses, my mother-in-law’s dresses and fabrics from clothes I sewed from my children and grandchildren," she said in the release. "All the stories have now been written down and photographs accompany the stories.”
The free “100 Dresses – Stitching Together Memories” program and quilt show features a display of all of her quilts. Light refreshments will be provided.
The library is at 203 E. Adams St. in Malta. RSVP by calling the library at 815-825-2525. Donations made to the library are appreciated.
