Kishwaukee College Adult Education department classes for high school equivalency preparation and English as a second language will hold an open enrollment for students on select dates for two weeks, beginning next week
Students should register at the class sites in their communities. All classes are free.
High school equivalency prep classes offer students an opportunity to prepare for the high school equivalency exam. HSE classes also are offered in Spanish. The ESL classes help adults with limited English proficiency learn the basics of speaking, listening, reading and writing with practical applications to daily life.
HSE classes taught in English are offered in DeKalb at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road (use the rear entrance). A class focused on math and science will meet from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. A class focused on language arts and social studies will meet from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students can enroll at the class site Sept. 12, 13, 14 and 18.
High school equivalency classes also will be held from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Sycamore High School, 555 Spartan Trail (W2 entrance/Room T-160), which will cover math and science preparation. Students can enroll at the class site Sept. 12 and 14.
There also will be HSE preparation classes at Kishwaukee College for students ages 16 to 21 who left high school without graduating. Students younger than 18 must provide a letter of separation from the high school. Classes will be from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays in Room C1209. Monday and Wednesday classes cover language arts and social sciences; Tuesday and Thursday classes cover math and science.
There is limited child care available for children younger than age 10 whose parents are attending the Tuesday and Thursday classes only. Students can enroll at the class site Sept. 12, 13, 14 and 18.
There is a Spanish HSE math and science prep class (taught in Spanish only) from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Kishwaukee College in Room C1203. There is limited child care available for children up to 10 years old whose parents are attending this class. Students can enroll at the class site Sept. 12 and 14.
There are English as a second languages classes at the beginning/low intermediate level from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in DeKalb at Christ Community Center, 316 N. Sixth St. There is limited child care available for children younger than age 10 whose parents are attending ESL classes at Kishwaukee College. Students can enroll in the intermediate/advanced classes at the class sites Sept. 13 and 18.
There is a class for high intermediate/advanced level from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room C1207 at Kishwaukee College, and another class in the evening from 6 to 8:15 p.m. in Rooms C1207 and C1209. There is limited child care available for children. Students can enroll in the intermediate/advanced classes at the class sites Sept. 12 and 14.
