Cheryl Larson and Cathy Anderson of the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners program recently assisted more than 50 “Little Learners” at the DeKalb Public Library with seed planting. The preschool children decorated pots and then chose seeds to plant. In addition they inserted seeds into a plastic bag with a damp paper towel to watch the growth of the roots and shoots. The library’s Little Learner story times are held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and at 10:30 and 10:50 a.m. Wednesdays. They are geared toward children ages 2 to 5, and are free and open to all. The library often has special community guests stop by and interact with the children.
